The Sacrament of Baptism

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. (Mt 28:19-20)

Baptism is the beginning of a child’s journey of faith. Through the teaching example of parents and godparents, a child will grow to become a follower of Christ and an active member of the church. Arrangements should be made as soon as possible after birth of a child by contacting Fr. LaBaff. Parents will meet with a team member to assist them in preparation for their baby’s baptism.

The Sacrament of Baptism may take place during Sunday Mass or privately. Baptism during the Mass allows the worshiping assembly to renew their own baptismal vows and affirm and welcome our newest member with the light of Christ.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is offered for adults who wish to become Catholic. Adults in the RCIA process usually receive the sacraments of Baptism (if not already Baptized), Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation. The RCIA program is a time of discernment and education in faith. If God may be calling you join the Catholic Church, speak to the pastor. In the fall an Inquiry Session is offered at St. Mary’s. It is a no-obligation opportunity to ask questions and explore becoming Catholic.
